[CLOSED] Cuppa Kaffe, SS15 Subang Jaya

It was one of those rainy Friday nights, which essentially means one thing - Heavy traffic. I contemplated for  moment on whether or not I should cancel on Foodirector this time round, but the thought of a hearty meal got the best of me - yes, I was thinking on a growling stomach.

Cuppa Kaffe

Cuppa Kaffe is a modern, cosy and relaxed coffee shop that serves a range of Segafredo coffees, cakes as well as a delectable selection of fusion mains.

Cuppa Kaffe opened its doors merely three weeks back, joining the lots of existing eateries in the ss15 square. Though located on the first floor, but at such populated area, this place should be a roaring success in no time!

With a name like Cuppa Kaffe, I thought - coffee and cakes only? Well, apart from the dainty desserts and  impressive coffee roaster, the mains were pretty die hard too.

For mere Rm14.90, you get a main, with complimentary drinks and soup. What more can you ask for?

A cosy and contemporary café that blends in effortlessly with the now, trendy café concept - fit for a community of like minded café enthusiast.

Blending in - great coffee and delicious food served on comfortable retro sofas or even outdoors.

The owner, Ben, shared a little about his story with us. Having spend six years in Perth, Ben recently returned to Malaysia and started up Cuppa Kaffe out of passion for good food and possibly inspired by the range of amazing cuisine at the Land Down Under - of course I could relate.

I'd probably have never shared this before - I used to work in Nandos for a short while, a café, then a kebabs and Mexican restaurant during my earlier years in Brisbane, Australia. It was one of the coolest and most memorable experience I've had. I can't deny that being in F&B in Australia exposed me to a great deal of amazing foods in which I would otherwise never try, thus appreciate, here.

One of their recommended drinks - the hot chocolate, was incredibly devine.

Mushroom soup of the day.

The soup came slightly watered down. Not letting it get to me; extremely starved - I was eager to sample their mains.

Chicken Chop. Rm12.90.

The chicken chop was a joy to eat. It was tender and had a lovely smoked flavour to it - a simple, no frills dish that I kept going back for more. By the way, naming convention gone wrong? grilled chicken no?

Chicken Maryland. Rm12.90.

The chicken Maryland appeared to be slightly overcooked; quite obvious from the dark brown colour of the batter and the meat came of a little dry and chewy as well. Gravy on the side was rather diluted - can't tell if it's black pepper or mushroom, really. And the onion rings, lets not talk about the onion rings - clearly frozen and somewhat tasteless. Should I say more?

Chicken Chop Fried Rice. Rm12.90.

The dish was A-Okay - was good but nothing particularly memorable with this one.

Smoked Salmon Salad. Rm13.90.

Interestingly, others thought the smoked salmon was slightly on the fishy side - I beg to differ. The strip of smoked salmon was well-done, moist and juicy with the salmon skin lightly grilled to a crisp perfection - I squealed for seconds.

Beef Ribs. Rm13.90.

Ribs wise, it was a let down. Lets not delve into the texture just yet, the mere notion of butchering the meat was a challenge - tough like that. Way overdone, awfully hard to chew and no where near tender. What a waste though, the sauce was wonderfully robust in flavour and the chargrilled bits on the outside was honey-glazed sweet.

Seafood Carbonara. Rm12.90.

Wow! What a captivating treat to the eye - fresh squids, springy prawns on swirls of nicely cooked spaghetti. The spaghetti was not too creamy and just enough to excite me for another spoonful.

Seafood marinara. Rm12.90.

The flavours of this dish caught me by surprise - the overload of tomato paste/sauce was the main culprit of it all, adding a richness that it really didn't need. Tomatoes overload aside, I had great pleasure chomping down on their fresh mussels and prawns nonetheless.

Pepperoncino with squids. Rm12.90.

Red chilli pepper infused spaghetti with squids will make an incredible display of fireworks in the mouth - fit for those wanting an extra kick outta a pasta dish. And as for me, I decided to pick the chilli peppers out and had forks full of the spaghetti instead.

Beef Bacon Carbonara. Rm12.90.

Coated in cream sauce, loaded with beef bacon and topped with loads of mozzarella cheese - this was pretty well done also. The spaghetti was a little undercooked though, a blip to an otherwise simple dish.

Chicken Carbonara. Rm12.90.

Unlike the former, this pasta was cooked al dente - exactly the way I like it. I found the pasta to be a little on the dry side nonetheless, wasn't a problem for me though, as I find creamy carbonara overwhelming to the taste buds sometimes. I did enjoy this - the reduced cream sauce; but I reckon a splash more would do better.

Now, lets move on to their desserts. I really have to tell you about their desserts - those dainty sweet little things!

We were given seven different types of desserts to sample. Priced slightly on the steep side at Rm7.90-rm9.90 each.

White Chocolate Mousse. (My favourite!)

Litchi Chocolate. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

 Moist Chocolate Cake.

Tiramisu. (Best seller!)

Hazelnut Truffle.

Cheesecake.

Classic Cappuccino.  (My favourite!)

It was a lovely blend of everything-sweet, exactly what I'd expect in desserts. If I were to pick among the lot for two of my favourites, it would have to be the white chocolate mousse and classic cappuccino.

All my friends thought the white chocolate mousse was a tinge too sweet. Personal preference perhaps, I found it to be just right - rich, smooth and the only dessert amongst all that I fondly recall the taste of - it was one delightful sweet treat. Apart from that, the classic cappuccino was my favourite dessert plated.

As far as the rest of the desserts, Cuppa Kaffe have a pretty awesome range going.

Overall Rating: 6/10. The drinks' good, the food made to order and good service delivered by friendly folks. They are still in the midst of tweaking their menu, so rest assured, there will on going enhancements and new additions to look forward to. If you're around the area and running out of places to dine at, Cuppa Kaffe may well be a good alternative.
