Gelato Fruity @ Paradigm Mall

After a very glutted and savory meal in Chili's, we thought that a sweet treat would be the perfect way to end an awesome meal.

Gelato Fruity

You've probably walked pass Gelato Fruity numerous times yet not notice it. It's unattractive signage has somewhat rendered it hidden although it's in plain view from Tesco.

Gelato Fruity opened it's first branch in 2004 at 1 Utama serving top quality gelato using an Italian formulation combined with premium grade ingredients.

Considering that this is one of those priced according to weight ice cream parlors, it was priced a bit more compared to places like Tutti Frutti (Rm4.77/g) currently.

Essentially, there are two types of ice cream available here - Gelato (milk base) and Sorbet (Water based). Gelato is slightly creamier in texture, whereas the latter is lighter and has a tinge of sourness in it.

I was given a couple of samples prior to ordering. My friend did most of the taste-testing nonetheless.

I personally enjoyed the sherbet versions more simply because I'm not a huge fan of milk based ice cream, though I shall give anything with cookies and cream an exception. Also, I was really stuffed at that point of time you see, hence anything light was of explicit preference.

In the end, we went with Peanut Gelato and Raspberry Sherbet.

Peanut Gelato. ~Rm8.

Digging in, I was greeted with a pleasant creamy peanut gelato - and that's about it. Few spoons after, I passed the cup over to my friend not wanting more. It simply did not have the peanut buttery flavour that I had anticipated though it was not as dense as Ben & Jerry's but definitely not sweet enough.

The dude behind the counter recommended peanuts as toppings, not too sure why he suggested as such and why I agreed as so, but the combination did not work in its favour.

Raspberry Sherbet. ~Rm8.

Not wanting to sound sexist, I think sherbets are more of a girly ice cream. This raspberry sherbet had a slight tartness in the first scoop, followed by a tinge of sweetness like the other frozen yogurt varieties. This was pretty good but did it justify the higher price paid compared to its rivals? Perhaps not.

Oh~ Toppings go for free however there wasn't much to choose from.

Overall Rating: 5.5/10. I am sure there are cheaper varieties out there.

Gelato Fruity is located at:
2FK 01, Paradigm Mall, 1, Jalan SS 7/26A, Kelana Jaya, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
