Kelantan Delights @ Sooka Central KL

There is an advantage of having Mak Ciks as colleagues (I love you guys). Every so often, I get to sample all sorts of traditional and authentic Malay delights, not leaving behind the modern Malay fusion dishes as well.

Kelantan Delights

Being an award winning restaurant, Kelantan Delights is a speciality restaurant serving popular Kelantanese, Terengganu and southern Thai cuisine.

Anchored with classic furniture pieces and symmetrical arrangements, this place boost a traditional yet elegant setting.

There is a variety of authentic Malay dishes available in store with Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang and Nasi Tumpang being their all time favorites.

Sirih Daun Kaduk (Wild Betel Leaves)

I have to admit that this is my first time trying out betel leaves this way. The combination of peanuts, diced ginger, kaffir lime zest, dried shrimp, onions, dried coconut with a secret home made sauce was slightly bitter on the first bite but followed by a tinge of saltiness thereafter.
Tomyam Kelapa Muda (Coconut Tomyum)
The Coconut Tomyum retained its distinct hot and sour flavours. I would only recommend this to those who have high tolerance towards spicy foods.

Nasi Kerabu Ayam Percik. Rm19.00.

This naturally tinted "blue rice" served with a clever concoction of fresh aromatic herbs and topped with special savoury sauce was done just right. The chicken was marinated well and was tender and meaty also.

Nasi Dagang Gulai Ikan. Rm20.

A 50:50 mixture of white rice and brown glutinous rice, the Nasi Dagang was not as sticky and fragrant as I thought it would be. Notwithstanding, the Gulai Ikan was sweet and flavorful but there were just too much bones in it.

Nasi Tumpang Ayam Goreng. Rm18.

The Nasi Tumpang is one of the Must-Eats in Kelantan Delights. Having only 15 Nasi Tumpang made per day, I was quite excited to unravel my cone of goodness.

Hoorah~ I successfully unwrapped the Nasi Tumpang without breaking it into pieces.

The combination of ketupat rice dispersed with layers of sambal, curry and meat floss works quite well. I was hoping for more fillings nonetheless. The fried chicken at the side was crispy and not too chewy and dry, just the way I like it.

Laksam. Rm14.

Apart from Nasi Kerabu, Laksam is one of my all time favorite as well. Thick rice noodles served in a creamy, rich coconut and fish broth was pleasing in this case, but I've tasted better.

Ketupat Sotong & Lompat Tikam.

I have to admit that the Ketupat Sotong was quite an unusual choice of dessert for me. Squid stuffed with glutinous rice drizzled with sweet sauce was undeniably a tastebud tester. It was savoury yet sweet with a fishy aftertaste. Having said that, I enjoyed the rich blending of my dessert platter.

Throughout the meal, the management of Kelantan Delights was very tentative in explaining the origins and details of dishes being served.

Overall Rating: 6.5/10 for the ultimate Kelantan Delights speciality, Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Tumpang as well as for the great concept.
